Solebox are doing big things with colabs this year. Their Ultra Boost Uncaged spotlighted the trend of uncaging the model – undoubtedly playing a key role in validating an idea that eventually became the UltraBOOST Uncaged – and followed the feat with the release of their long awaited ‘Carpenter Bee’ GEL-Lyte III.
Now the Berlin store is doubling down on the buzz with another Carpenter Bee, this time built on the chassis of a lesser known 90s sneaker – the ASICS GEL-Lyte Runner. Usually reserved for performance purposes, the shoe is most familiar with materials like mesh and heat bonded overlays. However, Solebox have reimagined the shoe as a premium lifestyle sneaker. Their Runner puts the Carpenter Bee in reverse. Its hairy head is represented by coarse grey suede at the rear, and it’s black abdomen is represented with soft leather that wraps around the toe box and back to the forefoot. A tonal blue similar to that of the first Carpenter Bee then shows on the lining, pull tabs and outsole.
The Solebox x ASICS GEL-Lyte Runner Carpenter Bee will be available from Solebox on July 16.
