S.R. Studio x Vans: The Future Is Clogged

S.R. Studio x Vans Future Clog

Sterling Ruby’s S.R. STUDIO LA. CA. and are back in the lab, and this time they’ve cooked up arguably their wildest experiment yet: the Future Clog. Landing this week, the model tears up the Vans playbook and reshapes it into something that looks more like an alien relic.

The inspiration stems from Ruby’s time in the Netherlands, where wooden clogs were part of the daily uniform. Here, that classic shape is warped into an oversized, asymmetrical slip-on that channels both nostalgia and futurism.

Three colourways are locked in for launch: a crisp all-white edition, a marbled yellow that leans into Ruby’s love of bold, painterly textures, and a stealthy black build. Each comes with a removable, washable liner – an unexpected, practical surprise that makes this art-meets-utility hybrid actually wearable.

The big twist? The Future Clog is actually a two-in-one design. While the moulded, one-piece TPU shell already looks wild on its own, inside it hides a minimal mule that transforms into a bootie-like interior once you slip it in – a functional reformation that's equal parts art hack and hardware upgrade. 'I fondly remember my grandfather wearing clogs while working in his shop… I wanted to honour the tradition of Dutch clogs while pushing them into the future,' Ruby explained.

This release stands apart from S.R. Studio x Vans projects, which gave archival models like the and a signature makeover

For the uninitiated, S.R. STUDIO LA. CA. is the brainchild of Sterling Ruby, the American artist who’s spent two decades blurring the lines between fine art, fashion, and furniture. Known for splattered canvases, sprawling sculptures, and even runway collections that double as performance pieces, Ruby’s work is all about distortion and reinvention.

Adding a final wrinkle to the story, a green pair has been spotted on Vans’ socials, though it’s been left out of the official promo run – so its fate is anyone’s guess. What we do know is that the marbled yellow edition will be locked to srstudio.com, while the cleaner black and white builds are heading to Vans.com on August 21 alongside the full capsule. Expect to shell out around $200.
