Ronnie Runs it Back: The ASICS GEL-Lyte III Gets a Blue-Chip Upgrade

never been shy about going back to the well – and when the well is the who’s complaining? The boss has once again resurrected his ride-or-die silhouette, this time in a clean ‘Blue/White’ number that looks tailor-made for his ever-groomed Manhattan clientele.
Built on supple white leather, the upper gets splashed with a mix of ocean and royal blue hits, with contrast stitching giving the panels a little extra bite. True to Fieg form, it’s the details that matter: the GEL-Lyte III’s split tongue now wears his surname in ASICS-style script, while two lace options – flat white or blue rope – give you some customisation options.

Of course, Fieg and ASICS go way back. His early ‘252’ pack laid the groundwork, but it was 2011’s and ‘Leatherback’ that ignited the GEL-Lyte III renaissance and cemented Ronnie as the guy who could sling suede runners like the proverbial pancake. Every drop since has been an echo of those formative years, with just enough twists to keep the saga rolling.
First released in 1990, the GEL-Lyte III was Shigeyuki Mitsui’s boldest gamble at the time – debuting the now-famous split tongue alongside lightweight suede-and-mesh builds and ASICS’ GEL cushioning. While the runner was built for performance, it was the split tongue and punchy colourways that helped it cross over into lifestyle lore, where it’s been a cult classic ever since.
Teased via Ronnie’s own IG feed, the ‘Blue/White’ GEL-Lyte III looks locked for an imminent Kith rollout across their webstore, app, and flagships. Nothing official yet, but you already know pairs will vanish quicker than a NYC cab.
