Just over a month ago we heard Nike were preparing a  Kobe 5 Protro that celebrated Kobe Bryant’s enviable post-season record, and now we have some more details on that release. As is often the case, when official images start to arrive, you can expect pairs to start hitting stores very soon.

As we saw back in August, the design is heavily influenced by the famous purple and gold of the Los Angeles Lakers, and also features laser etching across most of the upper to pay tribute to Kobe’s five NBA Championship rings. Those etchings include numbers, words and, Roman numerals, all flexing that impressive Finals record.

Additional Kobe references include the ‘KB’ and ‘24’ on the toe guards, the man himself’s signature on each heel, and the Mamba logo on the tongue.

Kobe secured his fifth NBA Championship ring on June 17 in 2010, after leading his Lakers to victory in Game 7 against the Boston Celtics. His game-high 23 points in that deciding game helped him towards the second Finals MVP award of his illustrious career.

Pairs of this colourful tribute will release at global stockists on September 30, while the Stateside release remains unconfirmed at this stage. Hopefully they’ll arrive in time for the latest batch of champions to hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
