Japanese streetwear legends A Bathing Ape have been dominating sneaker headlines this year with not only their famed inline offerings, but also their fresh new colabs with a multitude of brands. The beginning of 2021 saw BAPE link with Reebok, then rapper Gunna, and then adidas, each time infusing their signature aesthetic into a growing collection of collaborative creps. Next on their hit list is the New Balance 2002R!

This’ll be the first time the brands officially cross paths, but BAPE did have a shoe back in the day dubbed the FIVESTA that heavily resembled the NB574. Nonetheless, the New Balance 2002R will serve as the perfect specimen for BAPE experimentation.

This linkup was first teased way back in March via an IG post, and has only now been official debuted, there’s also more to the collection than meets the eye. Not only will we be getting the two camo-adorned New Balance 2002Rs, but they actually make up two parts of an 11-piece collection that also includes hoodies, tees and shorts!

As we’ve already seen in the closer look post, the creps come covered in BAPE’s signature camo, with one pair opting for a non-traditional grey tone. Muted overlays make way for the shark graphic at the rear that commands attention.

This BAPE x New Balance collection has been dubbed ‘Apes Together Strong’ and will hit stores first in China on June 5. A global drop will then hit shelves later in the year.
