Skateboarding legend Mark Gonzales rekindles his partnership with adidas Skateboarding with the release of the Aloha Super ‘Karol Winthorp’.

The early inspirations for the new colourway come courtesy of famed filmmaker Spike Jonze, who directed Blind Skateboards Video Days in 1991. The video was the first time he had adopted the pseudonym he is known as today and, during the production, Spike told Mark that he needed a pseudonym himself. And so, ‘Karol Winthorp’ was born, the famed Casting Director of arguably the most important street skateboarding video of all time. Unknown to most, Karol Winthorp is to Mark Gonzales, what Spike Jonze is to Adam Spiegel.

When Mark asked Spike to be a part of Krooked Skateboards’ Krooked Kronichles in 2006, Spike mentioned that Karol Winthorp needed to come back as well, to which Mark answered, ‘Those are big shoes to fill’. This interaction led to the iconic shots of Mark filming Spike wandering the streets of San Francisco and Los Angeles, as he wore a pair of all-brown men’s dress shoes.

Borrowing that famed look, the uppers of this latest collaboration feature lush brown suede, with contrasting light blue Trefoil hits.

The adidas Skateboarding Aloha Super ‘Karol Winthorp’ releases on December 12 at select skate shops like Fast Times, UPS Skateshop, Lo-Fi, and Beyond Skate, as well as on the adidas Confirmed App in the US, and through the adidas webstore in select regions.
