Ahead of their handover to new owners Authentic Brands Group, it appears Reebok are saving some of their wildest experiments for last. Exhibit A: the Instapump Fury X GTX, which reimagines the unique runner as a winter-ready sneaker-slash-boot thanks to some handy tech upgrades.

The first practical change is the heightened ankle collar, turning the Instapump Fury into a proper high top. This in turn enlarges all other proportions, with the laceless tongue design rising to engulf the ankle in a neoprene sock. Hiding behind is a fully sealed layer of GORE-TEX INFINIUM, a lighter version of the famous waterproof membrane that is more flexible and breathable to prevent overheating. Even though this technology is obscured from view, the massive ankle logos and lateral brand tags evoke George Costanza levels of declaration.

Because the Fury is now a boot, some components have relocated. Notably, the Pump buttons have moved to the lateral side, reminiscent of the Dual Pump. Taking its original position on the tongue is a zippered shroud, allowing further custom fit when used in tandem with the signature external Pump bladder. Elsewhere, contact points are beefed up, including chunky trail tread and reinforced toe and heel bumpers.
