Reebok Are 'United By Basketball' with the Pump Omni Zone 2
have just released a shiny new colourway of the Omni Zone 2 that emphasises the idea ‘United By Basketball’. This auspicious palette also celebrates the international appeal of the game, which further solidifies its concept.
The Pump Omni Zone 2 was revived last year to better replicate its 1991 specifications. This amendment means there’s now a bit more ankle height to work with, which allows Reebok to splash more colour across its upper. Given there’s a lot of extra room, the brand displays some restraint and sticks to just four colours, but uses them effectively for maximum pop. This is easily achieved with a two-toned white and black-trimmed upper that’s lit up with bright red inserts and striking gold overlays on the lace hardware and midsole accent. The signature Pump basketball on the tongue is kept orange like the OG.
Reebok’s press mentions ‘while it’s not the same Pump model, this particular iteration takes color and material cues straight from Houston’s signature red/gold Pump series of the mid-2000s’ – for the basketball heads, that’s a subtle nod to the Yao Ming-endorsed Pump Hexride that exhibited a similar colourway. Nice reference! And, given the fact that it’s just come out, it’s perfect timing for Lunar New Year which kicked off on February 1.
