It’s been a little while since the last Reebok DMX Trail Shadow release, but this upcoming drop proves the GORP-friendly model is back with fire in its DMX Shear belly. This is thanks to faithful referencing of a mid-90s off-road predecessor: the Etna approach shoe.

The Etna was likely to be found mountainside during its debut back in 1996 as it was designed to be versatile as both a hiker and light climbing boot. However, it also was rocked throughout the concrete jungle by steezy sneakerheads back in the day. Its distinct heightened rubberised mudguard has been replicated on the new DMX Trail Shadow, bridging a spiritual connection over 25 years on. As has the bone white colourway and contrasting darker lining, which is rendered in densely woven nylon and finely brushed nubuck-like material on the uppers. Underfoot, tonal black DMX Shear midsoles and wide tread offer excellent cushioning and grip respectively.

The archival inspiration continues the DMX Trail Shadow’s authentic hiking and outdoors-ready executions to date, which includes collaborations with likeminded companies Mountain Research and EASTLOGUE.

This new Reebok DMX Trail Shadow is set to release on January 15 from Reebok’s webstore and select global retailers including Packer and SSENSE.
