New Balance’s 99x series is the ideal entry into the Boston brand’s heritage offerings. There’s the mislabelled ‘dad shoe’ aesthetic of the 990v5 and 992, or sleeker editions like the 997, but consider its predecessor - the - as a viable option, too.
The limelight is rightfully being shone back on the 996 and its classic suede/mesh combo atop the wedge-style ENCAP sole. The standard grey option is essential, with its slightly creamy MCD and old-world microfiber lining. Looks like NB are using those slightly too long and stretchy laces as well - these are the details that matter.
