Motor City Anthem: Puffer Reds Spin adidas into the ‘Track 45’ Adistar

Detroit retailer Puffer Reds has been soundtracking the city for 45 years. To mark the milestone, they’ve teamed with for the Cushion 3 ‘Track 45’, a sneaker that riffs on the shop’s musical roots while flexing plenty of Motor City pride.

The details are pure Detroit storytelling. A red and granite upper mirrors the shop’s legendary Wall of Fame, while vinyl finishes and vintage audio motifs on the sockliner nod back to its record-store days. Flip the shoe and you’ll spot ‘Detroit’ etched into the sole in Lions blue, while '313' and '734' area codes on the heel leave no doubt where this one was born.

This collaboration isn’t just about looks, though. It’s the crown jewel of Puffer Reds’ journey through adidas’ Business Track program, run with Detroit’s Pensole Lewis College to give community-rooted retailers hands-on footwear design experience. As co-owner James Berry put it, ‘This collaboration honours our history and evolution while spotlighting the community that continues to inspire us.’

To celebrate the drop, Puffer Reds are transforming the store into a time-capsule exhibition, with artefacts from its multi-decade history on display. The night will close with a launch party at Diamondback Music Hall, complete with live sets from local talent.

Releasing August 28 for $150 at both Puffer Reds locations and online, each pair purchased on launch day comes with a ticket to the gig.
