Despite having started 30th anniversary celebrations for their back in 2020, are still pumping out new colourways of arguably their best-known retro runner. This latest duo goes conceptual with a ‘Changing of the Seasons’ theme, using colours and materials perfect for the transitional conditions.
Suede has reigned supreme on the GEL-Lyte III ever since its revival in the mid-2000s as a lifestyle model, shunning its athletic origins. The tactile aniline returns for this pair, covering every single panel on the upper save for the Tiger Stripe branding, which is in smooth leather. On the topic of contrast, heavy perforations dot the toe box and mid panel – reminiscent of golden era GL3 colabs from over a decade ago.
Thematically, ASICS have selected some tasteful shades for this pack. The Japanese tradition of looking for perfect red-burgundy maple leaf that was once green – ‘Momijigari’ – is represented by tonal shades of ‘Lichen Rock’ and ‘Watershed Rose’ across the two pairs. An included swing tag explains the concept in pure detail, and extra tongue embroidery calls out the concept.
