Every hoop head worth their salt knows PJ Tucker is the undisputed sneaker king of the league. A longtime journeyman of the NBA, Tucker is constantly lugging his precious cargo from one state to another, no doubt causing logistical nightmares every time he signs a new contract. He's now on the other side of the sneakersphere, heading up the design on a limited Nike Air Flight 89.

The 13-year veteran showed off the new shoe ahead of the Clippers vs Nuggets game on April 4, and it's now up for a limited auction. Featuring an icy ‘Sky Blue’ exterior with custom PJ17 stitching on the heels, the collaboration pays homage to Air France’s ubiquitous Boeing 777-300 airliner. The colourway is also inspired by the 'Carolina Blue' known throughout North Carolina, which is hallowed grounds for hoop talent in the US. Interestingly, the Air Flight 89 will be limited to just 472 pairs, a correlation to the precise number of seats on a Boeing 777-300 plane. Additionally, each model comes with a ‘seat number’ on the inside of the tongues.

Sold via PJ Tucker’s The Better Generation in Houston, the raffle is now live for those hoping to score a pair. The collaboration launches on May 5.

Released the same year as the Air Jordan 4, Tinker Hatfield’s Air Flight 89 has seen numerous retros over the years. Most recently, the model celebrated its 35th anniversary with Stussy.
