A new NMD has arrived! The sneaker is borne of the friendship between adidas and Pharrell Williams. The hat-wearer famously worked with the Three Stripes on a 50-strong collection of multicolour Stan Smiths and has been responsible for a number of other colour schemes falling on the shoe – mostly in cahoots with BBC.
Now Pharrell has been gifted his very own sneaker – the Hu NMD. The ‘Hu’ stand for ‘human being/human race/human kind…’ – you get the idea – and is part of a larger creative concept that Pharrell and adidas are working on that is centred around Pharrell’s Zen-like ideologies of humanity bridging boundaries.
Stylistically the shoe is a departure from the other NMDs on the market. It still sits on a Boost sole with shanks on the forefoot – but the shanks are sleeker, featuring one lateral line rather than the ribbing we’re used to. The TPU caging has been also been revised to sit lower and further towards the heel to look like a futuristic moccasin. The talking point of the shoe, though, is the statement ‘Human Race’ branding that takes up prime real estate on the front of the shoe running from the toe box up to the laces.
The Pharrell Williams x adidas Originals Hu NMD will be available on July 22 in limited quantities from select adidas Originals retailers like Sneakersnstuff.
