Pharrell’s Working on the adidas Superstar Again
The iconic has been subtly making waves in the sneakersphere over the past few months, namely with the retro return of 2005 colab and their greyed-out iteration. and versions have also kept the model in the headlines, and now fresh off his Spring/Summer 2025 show, is next in line to rework the Superstar.
Pharrell, who’s been a longtime adidas collaborator, has worked on the Superstar a number of times in his long tenure with the Three Stripes. The biggest variation from the multi-hyphenate artist and adidas was the ‘Supercolour Pack’ from 2015 that boasted a massive 50 shoes!
For Pharrell’s 2024 Superstar collaboration, he’s completely remixed the iconic shape in a number of variations. The most eye-catching is the stacked 92 variant, which looks to the exaggerated snow shoes from the 1990s for inspiration on the additional padding throughout the whole upper. There’s also a regular iteration, and then a third that opts for super slimmed down midsoles. Each of these three variations of the Superstar rock the classic black and white colourway, while the midsoles and Shell Toe opt for a faux-vintage yellowing. Finally, Pharrell references his home state of Virginia throughout the packaging.
