The New Balance 992 is rightfully enjoying its time in the limelight at the moment. Between killer collaborations and strong inline colourways, not to mention the OG grey edition that’s pretty much sold out with each restock, NB continue to add new options to the quickly growing roster. This new plaid edition definitely taps into the statesman status that the heritage running brand have proudly claimed since 1906.

Plaid is just about one of society’s oldest patterns around, yet there are so many regional variations. NB add their own take on the textile across the 992’s underlays where mesh would usually be. It’s not just one type of plaid either; the front section uses a red type, while the rear is blue. These sections are matched tonally with a red leather mudguard and toe cap that wraps the front three-quarters, and the suede heel counter is dipped deep blue. Elsewhere, the eyestay panels alternate between dark grey suede and tan leather, furthering the ‘cool old man’ vibe, plus affirming NB’s proclivity to use nice materials for their MiUSA line. Finally, the two-tone grey and white ABZORB midsole features a red heel clip, which is a little different to the norm. As is this entire colourway, really.

They’re out now from Foot District.
