The GEL-Lyte III is arguably the most easily identifiable retro ASICS model among the sneaker community. This is largely in part thanks to its still inimitable split tongue design and impressive comfort for a 90s design. But in a broader sense, the flourishing amount of colourways that have entered the market in the past 15 years since the model was reintroduced in mid-late 2006 have kept it in the kick consciousness. And after all this time, ASICS still find new ways to present their favoured throwback model, such as this upcoming duo that’s been decorated with both paisley and quilt details.

The GL3 is no longer the default choice for a quick 5K, so it ditches its original microfibre and nylon configuration for more lifestyle-friendly finishing in suede. This tactile tactic accounts for other textures however, with quilted nylon appearing on the split tongue and lateral mid panel underlay. Meanwhile, the aforementioned paisley patches make themselves seen on the medial side, wrapping into the ankle tab. With quite a lot going on already, it serves ASICS well to not go overboard with additional contrast by keeping the Tiger Stripes, GEL midsoles, and laces a restrained shade of cream.

These decorative GEL-Lyte IIIs will release directly from ASICS on July 6 in ‘Ash Rock’ and ‘Black’ options.
