OVERCOAT Show Magnificence in Monochrome with New Balance RC_1300 ColabRelease: 14 November 2020
The spotlight may currently be shining on the 992 revival, but the New Balance RC_1300 has emerged as the dark horse of 2020. Its rise and rise has been largely aided by both strong inline colourways and clean collaborations with global brands. This latest edition is an example of the latter category, featuring the subtle stylings of IYKYK fashion label OVERCOAT.
At first glance, it’s easy to assume this is simply an all-white rendition of the RC_1300. However, that view is immediately dispelled upon closer inspection, as OVERCOAT have effectively inverted the upper pattern and raised the underlay panels to be flush with the usual overlaid sections. So all of the main panels sit on the same plane in plush white leather, and the base layer is imbued with reflective material – which is totally a New Balance nerd thing to do. Underfoot, the ENCAP REVEAL midsole is rendered in pure white, as opposed to two-tone grey. In fact, the lugged outsole tread is white too, save for the yellow Vibram badge.
Usually NB colabs with somewhat obscure (to the mainstream) entities are reserved for the fervent fans based over in Japan, which is partially true for this release. It will indeed be releasing at selected NB boutiques in Japan, but Dover Street Market and Kith are expecting a tight allocation too. Pencil in November 13 for the release.
