OTW by Vans Introduce Debut Collaborator: Sterling Ruby's S.R. STUDIO LA. CA.
is the fresh lifestyle arm of the , where collaborators will be enlisted and premium inline product will be crafted. Following the touchdown of select styles from Season 1 of OTW, the debut collaboration has been revealed, with Sterling Ruby's S.R. STUDIO LA. CA taking centre stage.
S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. is a clothing and accessories brand that has been evolving through ten years of experimentation with textile mediums. Under the direction of artist Sterling Ruby, S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA presents collections that are not defined by seasons and are inspired by Ruby's other art including soft sculpture, quilts, backdrops and garments.
Ruby said in a press release, 'I loved skating, I still do. Everything about it represents freedom to me. From the simple rituals of dropping in on a vert ramp or grinding over a curb, the act of skateboarding defies gravity and is in and of itself rebellious. This collaboration is a personal collaboration... Vans feels right to us.'
This eye-catching link up combines Vans' long skate heritage with Sterling Ruby's disruptive artwork. The model used is a brand new iteration dubbed 'Clash the Wall', and is crafted using four iconic models: the Old Skool 36, the Authentic, the Mid-Skool 77, and the Sk8-Hi. Each pair is covered in monochromatic neon tones that nod to Ruby's work and come correct with co-branded details.
'OTW takes Vans’ roots in skateboarding and design history to inform new interpretations of what Vans can be,' said Ian Ginoza, Vice President, Creative Director for Pinnacle, OTW by Vans. 'Sterling honors that approach by leveraging Vans’ iconic designs to create something new.'
The collection from OTW by Vans and S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. will launch in limited quantities on February 29 at select boutiques and via the brand's online channels.
