Japan's nonnative are already responsible for one of the most coveted New Balance collaborations of all time: the 'Dune' edition of the 997.5 hybrid, which was resurrected by Ronnie Fieg earlier this year for the debut of the 997S. Now nonnative and NB are looking to recapture some of that magic on a different silhouette.
Coming soon is a special co-branded edition of the old 996. Intended to look like a used sneaker from the 1980s, the kicks feature distressed details and pre-yellow soles to go along with hairy grey suede construction, black accents, and the dashing 'NB' logo. nonnative designer Takayuki Fujii even added teal hits to the outsole as a nod to the aforementioned 'Dune' colab, while a thicker tongue and added elastic straps mean the kicks can be rocked with the laces loosened up or removed entirely.
The special collaboration will hit COVERCHORD on July 27.
