Nike's PhantomVSN Hits the Pitch
The World Cup may be done and dusted, but football fever lingers with many of Europe's top leagues kicking off this weekend. Set to keep many of world's best locked in when they hit the pitch, Nike have unleashed the game-changing PhantomVSN football boot.
Featuring an internal 'Quadfit' mesh bootie that conforms to the foot, the PhantomVSN is designed to provide support in all directions and minimise overstretch, thus retaining its shape. While not visible from the outside, the impact is immediate on the inside, according to Nike football designer Phil Woodman.
‘Players have long been accustomed to the rigors of breaking in their boots, but the PhantomVSN is match-ready right out of the box,’ says Woodman. ‘We’ve done tremendous amounts of research, talking with players and analysing data in the lab. The results are unanimously in favour of lacing to provide that customised fit each player desires.’
Adopting ‘Ghost Lace’ instead of traditional lacing, the new system has minimal touch points and a one-pull construction that equally distributes tension all the way down the foot. The laces can be discretely tucked away to provide a clean and even striking surface.
Some have already been able to experience the PhantomVSN first hand via a series of global pop-ups, which included a next-level Phantom Pyramid in Melbourne. Keen for more on-foot looks? Be sure to peep the feet of Philippe Coutinho, Kevin De Bruyne, Fran Kirby, Leon Goretzka and Mallory Pugh when they lace ‘em up in the coming weeks.
