Skate collective Gnarhunters are priming for the release of their Nike SB Dunk Low collaboration next week. Ahead of the launch, they bundled the crew along with Nike SB stalwarts including Eric Koston, Nicole Hause, Jake Anderson and Leticia Bufoni to hit the waves in Puerto Rico. The beach couldn’t be further from the skate park, but the material execution of this Dunk is definitely inspired by the surf.

‘[T]o start it out in Puerto Rico on a surf trip for the Gnarhunters Dunk was just epic!’ said founder Elissa Steamer.

More specifically, these Dunks are made from the same materials one would find on a wetsuit and towel. Neoprene material covers the toe bumper, eyestays and heel counter, while terry towelling fills in the toe box, tongue, mid panel and ankle collar. The surf theme continues with elasticated toggle laces and a Velcro swoosh to simulate surfing hardware. Bringing home the execution is a wax comb for surfboard use.

Of course, being SB Dunks, they are made for skate too – the durability of the featured materials is however yet to be proven. And, being skate shoes, this colab will only release at selected skate stores on May 24.
