Nike Previews the Potential of Flyleather
next-gen is set for a big 2019. More sustainable, more lightweight, and five times stronger than traditional leather, Flyleather has been in the brand’s releases so far, but that’s all about to change.
Using a hydro process that fuses recycled leather and synthetic fibres together, Flyleather is a manmade material that mimics regular leather — full-grain to smooth — and even suede when reversed. Nike claims that Flyleather is ideal for treatments like lasering, embossing, and all-over prints, opening up a smorgasbord of creative possibilities.
To showcase the material's potential, Nike have revealed a series of Air Force 1 customs (pictured above). Will we see more classic leather silhouettes lookin’ Fly next year? All signs point to ‘yes’.
