Nike Previews the Potential of Flyleather
Nike's next-gen Flyleather material is set for a big 2019. More sustainable, more lightweight, and five times stronger than traditional leather, Flyleather has been used sparingly in the brand’s releases so far, but that’s all about to change.
Using a hydro process that fuses recycled leather and synthetic fibres together, Flyleather is a manmade material that mimics regular leather — full-grain to smooth — and even suede when reversed. Nike claims that Flyleather is ideal for treatments like lasering, embossing, and all-over prints, opening up a smorgasbord of creative possibilities.
To showcase the material's potential, Nike have revealed a series of Air Force 1 customs (pictured above). Will we see more classic leather silhouettes lookin’ Fly next year? All signs point to ‘yes’.
