First Look: Nike Kobe 3 Protro 'Halo'

Since passing, have honoured his legacy through the ‘Halo’ series. Each pristine white sneaker in the line is meant to ultimately show off the wear and grit of the hard work the player has put in while wearing them. August is right around the corner, which means Kobe’s birthday will be here soon – and the first look at this year’s Nike Kobe ‘Halo’ just surfaced. This year, it will be a Nike receiving the ‘Halo’ treatment, and it's set to be dropped in Protro (Performance Retro) form – meaning it will come with significant upgrades.
Though Kobe won his first and only NBA MVP in the Kobe 3s, this model is often overlooked when it comes to the pantheon of Kobe sneakers – the silhouette was last released in 2016 as a part of the ‘Fade To Black’ collection. As the last high-top model released before the Kobe line went low (the being the one exception), the 3 doesn’t fit the motif commonly associated with the Mamba’s signature sneakers. However, one thing that is never lacking in the Kobe line is precision. Kobe was, famously, as obsessive over his shoes as he was his game.
The Kobe 3 ‘Halo’ will feature noteworthy improvements. As a part of the Protro line, it will now include a full-length Zoom Air strobel, Cushlon 3.0, added tongue padding, a breathable mesh upper, and improved traction. Set to pack a punch, the Kobe 3 ‘Halo’ continues Kobe’s life and legacy of the relentless pursuit of greatness.
As is tradition, the Nike Kobe 3 ‘Halo’ will be released on August 23 in celebration of Bryant’s birthday. All the upgrades will push the retail price up to $210, compared to the original $140 price tag of the 2008 release. Stay tuned for all the updates as the launch approaches.
