Here’s a First Look at Nike’s Olympic Breakdancing Shoe and Kits
‘On Air’ event in Paris is well and truly underway, and along with the celebrations, the Swoosh have been showcasing some of their newest products. With a focus on this year’s Olympic Games, the Beaverton-based brand has taken the opportunity to reveal some of the countries' kits, but that’s not all that caught our eye. Now that breakdancing will officially be included within the Games’ schedule, the Swoosh have got creative with the sport's footwear and apparel. First up, the Nike Jam has been revealed, marking Nike’s first foray into the sport.
Having been a focus for the brand for the past four years, the Nike Jam has been designed in partnership with the Nike Sports Research Lab, or NSLR, and its development process also featured the help of breakdancing athletes across the globe. It consists of a mixed-material construction, with a mesh base and suede and leather panelling, along with a low-cut silhouette that allows dancers to move as needed. Underfoot, a drop-in midsole helps to protect against impact, and a specially designed outsole revolves around the pivot points that dancers will often use in the sport. The Swoosh on the sole is also upside down, so that it’ll face the correct way when breakers go upside down.
Nike also revealed the accompanying apparel, and you can check out Team USA and Korea’s kits above. Expect to see the shoes drop later this year and stay locked to Sneaker Freaker for more Nike ‘On Air’ coverage.
