Nike Give Serena Williams a Special Zip-Up Air Force 1 LXXRelease: 21 October 2021
Serena Williams is in the uppermost echelon of Nike athletes – the 23-time Grand Slam winner even has a building named after her on the Swoosh's corporate campus, putting her on par with other luminaries of sport like LeBron James, Michael Jordan and Ken Griffey Jr. She's worked with Virgil Abloh on special Off-White x Nike Air Max 97s and Off-White x Nike Blazers and shifted the world of tennis attire in the manner of greats like Andre Agassi and John McEnroe by wearing a black catsuit to the US Open in 2018.
Yeah, Serena's done a whole lot at the Swoosh. So what's next? Bringing up others with her. Nike and Williams recently announced the Serena Williams Design Crew (SWDC for short), which consists of ten talented and diverse designers tasked with creating special products as part of a Williams-centric line. One of those products is a luxurious take on the Air Force 1 LXX, a laceless iteration of the Air Force 1 Low.
A fresh take on the classic white-on-white colourway, this low-cut Air Force 1 features a tumbled leather upper with a bold embroidered Swoosh on the midfoot. Gold hardware appears in place of laces, and when unzipped it reveals the SWDC's '10 4 01' logo, a celebration of 'diversity and camaraderie.' Alternate tongue tags and geometrically patterned insoles round off the look.
Expect Serena's Air Force 1 LXX to release via Nike SNKRS China come October 21. Its MSRP is set at ¥949. A global release is likely to follow as well.
