Nike Gear Up the Air Tuned Max 2021 Retro!Release: 3 April 2021
Nike Air Max heads rejoice, because another late-1990s banger is coming back real soon in a big way! February will welcome the return of the Air Tuned Max, a fabled model that’s a particular object of affection for real OGs and kid stompers alike.
New-gen fans likely would have been indirectly introduced to the design – which will be the first-ever retro since its 1999 run – via Skepta’s Air Max 97 Ultra colab back in 2017. Even more recently, the Air Max Zephyr borrowed the bronze iridescence of the Air Tuned Max’s OG colourway. But for the dyed-in-the-wool Air-Max-always sneakerheads, this has been an agonising 20-plus-year wait.
For all intents and purposes, these initial ecomm pics look pretty promising. Accurate proportions and colours give the retro-futuristic design a crisp HD remaster for 2021, and even the Air units have come back big. It appears Nike have put some extra effort into getting this retro right; they even made sure to replicate that tiny forefoot bubble right under the toes. And is that a seam running along the middle of the heel unit!? Some tears of joy are definitely being shed.
Perhaps the best news after this announcement is the fact the wait for the retail release isn’t that far away! The Nike Air Tuned Max will make its comeback on February 25 via selected retailers. Get excited.
