Nike Creates Wild Air Force 1 'jet' Pe For Sir Elton John
Having your own is one of the highest honours in the sneaker world. Sure, you can always hit up to express your creativity but you are still limited to a pre-determined set of colours, materials and customisation options. Recently, Sir Elton John performed a concert in 's home state of Portland, so the crew at the Swoosh's world headquarters conjured up a truly special pair of Air Force 1s to thank the Grammy Award-winning recording artist for his commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The one-of-one pair of Forces feature a chrome silver upper inspired by both the disco ball – a nod to Elton's rise to fame in the 70s – and the armour of a British knight. The shoes feature a multicolour gradient on the sides of each outsole, as well as rainbow graphics on the tongue tags and insole inspired by Nike's BETRUE diversity campaign. The heels are embroidered with the word 'SIR' in recognition of Elton's 1998 knighting by Queen Elizabeth II, while The tongues feature the name 'AF1 Jet', a reference to one of Elton's most famous tracks – 'Bennie and the Jets'.
The Nike Air Force 1 PE 'Jet' was manufactured in The Builder Lab within Nike’s Advanced Product Creation Centre as a one off piece of footwear, so don't expect to see these on shelves anytime soon!
