Tinker Hatfield’s iconic Nike Air Trainer 1 continues to inspire the sneaker industry in 2022, the OG cross-trainer originally worn by the likes of Bo Jackson and John McEnroe in the 1980s and 1990s. Famously designed after one fateful trip to the gym (where Hatfield noticed people bringing two pairs of shoes with them – one for deadlifts and one for running), the OG ‘Chlorophyll’ colourway is still one of the most coveted from the Air Trainer catalogue, the colour palette taking cues from Hatfield’s Portland-area YMCA gym.

This year celebrating its 35th anniversary, we’re expecting numerous in-house Nike colourways to hit shelves, the latest grey, black and white rendition taking notes from the OG. Donning the classic retro forefoot strap, the latest Air Trainer 1 again utilises buttery smooth leather uppers and eye-catching reflective mesh panels, while down below, you’ll find the Beaverton brand’s legendary Air-cushioned rubber soles.

The Nike Air Trainer 1 ‘Smoke Grey’ is available right now from Asphaltgold.
