Now, Nike’s next edition not only brings a futuristic colourway to the silhouette but also honours the journey and style of the Air More Uptempo’s designer, Wilson Smith, who became Nike’s first Black designer in 1983. Among many things, Smith had a love of space-age TV – something that serves as the inspiration behind this design.
Its uppers feature a subtle yet striking gradient designed to teleport you to another galaxy. On top of that, its oversized graffiti-inspired ‘AIR’ features reflective accents that are sure to take you to the stars. Further details can be found on the tongues, with the insignia denoting Wilson’s initials and the date he started with Nike. Printed on the insoles, you’ll find the quote ‘...in humility count others more significant than yourselves,’ which speaks to Smith’s passion for coaching, teaching, and giving back.
