Breathe Deep With the New Nike Air Max Sunder's Built-In Gills

's remixes of their late-90s muse, the , continue to drop into an eager sneakershere – and the latest iteration offers an alteration that's deceptively small in terms of build, but super impactful on the model's wearability.

The Sunder is a specialist cross-training design, and its pre-eminent feature is a neoprene upper which zips closed to hide the lace bed. Neoprene might be the synthetic rubber of divers' dreams – it's flexible, and buoyant to boot – but it's also insanely insulating. Those tiny air pockets which give the material its unsinkable properties also trap body heat, keeping divers warm in cold water.

This news is great for scuba enthusiasts, and not as welcome for those who dig the Sunder's futuristic energy but have feet with a tendency to schvitz.

Enter the small-but-mighty amendment to the Air Max Sunder's shroud: ventilation slits.

Unveiled images of the new model give us a close-up on the shroud, which now sports a series of gills sliced through the soft upper. There are nine across each side of the vamp, four on each side of the heel counter, and five across each toe box – and in a neat branding wink, one of those lateral vents is a mini Swoosh.

There are no release date deets for the model at this stage, but keep it locked to SF for all the info as it bubbles up.
