Back in 1996, there was one name hot on the lips of every Major League Baseball fanatic: Ken Griffey 'the Kid' Jr. That year, Griffey Jr received his first signature Nike shoe, the – and now a rerelease is all but in the mitt for Spring 2026.

Griffey is one of the all-time greats of the plate, with a swing that clocked up 630 home runs (the seventh-most in MLB history) and made him a 13-time All-Star. The Air Griffey Max 1 is a maximalist affair, high-cut and sporting exposed Air units within a brawny midsole. A bold, curvy split ripples across the upper to separate 'Varsity Royal' and white portions, meeting a boss of a Swoosh on the lateral toe in black. Super-subtle pops of neon yellow appear at the Air units, pull tabs (at both heel and tongue), and the vamp's base. The model's crown is its hook-and-loop ankle strap, which bears a white '24' – Griffey Jr's jersey number during the pro's decade-long stint with the Seattle Mariners (1989–1999).

Nike have not confirmed whether sneakerheads can expect any Air bubble updates or other modifications to the model, but with a price point set at the same $170 of its 2021 release (timed for the celebration of the silhouette's 25th birthday), alterations are looking unlikely.
