New Balance Prime a Trio of 550s For Release
have been going from strength to strength with their revived basketball shoe. Contrary to many other sneakers on the market, NB have pinned the 550’s success on a focused assortment of general release colourways while displaying appropriate restraint with a tightly controlled number of collaborations. And this winning formula continues with three new drops that exercise the adage ‘less is more’.
New Balance are one of the leading names when it comes to reproducing their archival models. And it’s no different with the 550, which was revived last year after more than 30 years’ dormancy. In 2021, the brand continues this near one-to-one remake with period colourways that could have dropped back in the day, such as this trio that starts with a solid white leather base, which is bordered by black toe bumpers, ankle collars, and heel clips. Consistent design details with most 550 releases so far include lightly perforated mudguard panels, plus nylon rear quarters and tongues. Remaining accents and branded panels are shaded in reliable primary colours of red, green and blue. As such, this could be called the ‘RGB’ pack, but it’s officially known as the ‘Shifted Sport’ collection.
These new 550 colourways will be available from September 1, directly from New Balance.
