Typically seen in neutral, earth-toned palettes and crafted at , the has long been a staple of the Boston brand’s Made in UK line. Last year marked the silhouette’s 35th anniversary, and it’s still going strong – with new colourways continuing to surface in 2025, like this all-black version.

Born in 1989, when running shoes were pushing boundaries and competition was fierce, the 1500 stormed onto the scene and quickly set new standards for performance footwear. Developed over three years and shaped in part by researchers at MIT, the design introduced a then-new acceleration pad at the forefoot alongside a now-signature ENCAP heel system.

It also made headlines for its price point, becoming the first running shoe to exceed the $150 mark. Today, the flagship model has gained a loyal following, with many praising its streamlined design, scaled-down ‘N’ logo, and the luxurious suede construction which distinguished it from its contemporaries.

Visually, the New Balance Made in UK 1500 'Black' keeps things stripped back. Premium suede and pigskin fabrics dominate the upper in a deep caviar finish, extending seamlessly across the sole unit and trim. It’s a departure from the silhouette’s traditionally refined presentation, opting instead for something more in line with contemporary streetwear sensibilities. No word yet on how this one will move, but if the triple-black 9060s are anything to go by, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this pair ends up flying out too.

The New Balance 1500 Made in England 'Black' has already started appearing at select retailers, but further release details – including a potential stateside drop – remain unconfirmed. A launch is expected sometime in the Summer/Fall 2025 range.
