New Balance and Foot Locker Forecast 550s for Grey Days
Sneakerheads, the May forecast is upon us and with it comes predictions of two weeks' worth of Grey Days. Now established as a firm fixture within the sneaker calendar, annual celebrations of their signature hue has arrived, and the Boston-based brand has once again laced up a slew of new releases to mark the occasion. Included in the mix this year are three tonal New Balance that have just touched down at .
New Balance's affinity for grey was born from running, starting as a solution for runners who didn’t want to get their sneakers dirty (relatable); however, it'd be a disservice to say that the colour grey simply boils down to being practical, as its versatility and timelessness has seen the colour become a virtual byword for the brand. It has since surpassed the track, going on to grace sport-specific and lifestyle models alike, and Foot Locker’s latest trio pays tribute to this wider sporting heritage by bringing the signature hue to the court in the form of NB's retro hooper, the 550.
Originally designed by the Godfather of Dad Shoes, , before being tastefully revived by founder and MADE in USA Creative Director in 2020, the 550's simple aesthetic has made it a mainstream staple. By now, we’ve seen them in a multitude of colours, but minimal and tonal editions like these Grey Days pairs make an easy addition to any rotation. The three-part pack is led with a monochromatic, stormy-grey leather edition that comes complemented with cream soles and branding hits, while the second pair features greige leather overlays that sit alongside panels of washed-out light grey suede. A third pair arrives in a creamy green hue, rounding out the selection by allowing New Balance to further embrace tones between the binary black and white.
