It was inevitable, but it finally happened: New Balance have released an all-black (or 'triple black', murdered-out – whatever the preferred term is) 992. Now the ultra comfortable and supportive NB design can be stealthily rocked at hospitality, security, and even educational jobs worldwide, thanks to the dress code-compliant colourway – or lack thereof.

The arrival of an all-black 992 was frustratingly close when NB first brought back the model at the beginning of 2020 via the M992BL. Where that edition had glimpses of classic grey on the upper and a two-toned contrasting midsole, this version, codenamed M992EA, dips everything in black.

While everything is indeed tonal, there is still quite some textural depth to the design, thanks to the multiple materials at play. NB suede is some of the best in the business, and this 992 doesn’t skimp on the suppleness – it was the flagship runner back in 2006, after all. There's also plenty of mesh inserted in the toe box, mid panels and tongue for optimised breathability.

Underfoot, things are suitably primo, with the very advanced ABZORB SBS midsole unit, where its dual-density foams are hidden in black. Of course, the outsoles are black by default.

The New Balance 992 M992EA is out now – and selling very quickly – at worldwide retailers such as END.
