One ponders if New Balance will ever hit 1500 variations of their popular 1500 heritage runner. The pioneering work of the New Balance 1500 Archive, at last count, noted just over 100 colourways. So, it’ll be a while until NB hit the numbers, if it ever happens. In any case, this new release increases the total colourways by one.

Like all good NB1500s (not that there’s such a thing as a bad 1500), this one uses the essential suede and mesh combo on the upper. And adherence to the OG formula is furthered by the liberal inclusion of grey across the mudguard, mid panel, and tongue. Even the contrast navy heel counter is right out of the classic NB playbook.

Then it goes rogue – at least by Flimby factory standards – with some runaway burgundy accents on the toe cap, throat wrap, and N embroidery. If you just had these words to imagine how they’d look, you’d think it was an incongruous mix. But, thanks to the pics above, it turns out burgundy, grey and navy work pretty well together! Add all the usual trimmings like ENCAP soles and velvety microfibre lining, and you’ve got another understated hit from NB.

They’re out now from NB boutiques like SNS.
