New Balance Blow Some ‘Lemon Haze’ Onto the 2002R
The can be considered the current golden child of the brand’s lifestyle range for a number of reasons. It’s among the ‘younger’ designs from NB, having only debuted in 2010, versus more stately designs like the and . And it’s been the collaborator’s choice for a high calibre of brand partners including and . However, the 2002R’s general release colourways are nothing to be sneezed at, as evidenced by this new ‘Lemon Haze’ release.
The original 2002 (sans R suffix) was a bit of a cult hit back in the day because of its exorbitant $250 price tag, top tier materials, and under-the-radar presence. New Balance have given the once out-of-reach model a bit of a facelift with a new midsole (borrowed from the 860v2) and a chameleon upper that’s receptive to most colours and materials. Even with these opportunities on hand, this colourway takes a restrained direction and portrays a palette that easily slides into the assortment. After all, it’s a straightforward mix of white leather and mesh set against ‘Lemon Haze’ (think creamy faux vintage patina) midsoles and accent strips. Some bits of black edging on the N branding, lining, and midsole add some extra contrast.
