Earlier in the month, New Balance did peak dad style to perfection with a crisp white leather 992. Now, they've crafted the most luxurious referee shoe you'll ever see: a black leather 991 that's made in the UK. Equally at home pounding the city pavement as it is running up and down the hardwood while working a high school basketball game, it's a no-frills take on a beloved throwback silhouette that's celebrating its 20th anniversary one more time before the year is out.

Dressed in black from heel to toe – with just a few hits of dark grey for contrast – this 991's key detail is its supple leather construction. An apt choice for the world's colder hemispheres as 2021 draws to a close, it offers an enhanced sturdiness that you won't find on a mesh runner.

Comfort is key too, of course, so full-foot ABZORB cushioning, a removable insole and a micro-suede collar liner work to ensure that no cushioning is forgone in the material switch. Though they're not pictured here, New Balance will also be releasing an all-white leather 991 as well as both white and black leather takes on the 1500 in the coming weeks as well.

If you're looking to add these joints to your late-year rotation, you can cop them at Aphrodite now. They're priced at £199, which translates to approximately $225.
