New Balance's 990 series is set to turn 40(!) in 2022, so to celebrate its 'ruby' anniversary, the brand has released special 'Version Series' iterations of the 990, the 990v2 and the 990v3. Now, the 'Version Series' is set to draw to a close with the arrival of a 990v4.

The 990v4 'Version Series' follows the template established by its predecessors, namely ornamenting its crisp grey base with a bold ruby-red tag that offers a dash of Levi's-esque flair. Originally released in 2016, the 990v4 is known for its cut-out upper layers (here accented with carefully-placed hits of dark grey), large midfoot N logo and ENCAP midsole that provides responsive cushioning.

In 2019 the 990v4 was superseded by the 990v5, and in 2022 it'll practically be a heritage model as the 990v6 is set to make its way to market! However, it's sure to have a place in New Balance's yearly lifestyle release plans, and you'll be able to snag this 'Version Series' pair via the brand's webstore come November 12. Its MSRP is set at $185.
