The New Balance 990v4 Is Back in 2023
Believe it or not, the released all the way back in 2016 as the flagship model in the at the time. It had a relatively short-lived but impactful three-ish-year run that saw NB slowly embrace its potential as a lifestyle model while retaining its premium performance-first stance. Now, after a few years absent, the v4 in its OG grey makeup is back.
Its return is likely thanks in part to Teddy Santis, the Aime Leon Dore-cum-New Balance MADE creative director, who recently revived the model as part of the regular ‘Season 2’ drops. Bringing back the 990v4 for a one-off colourway wouldn’t make much sense, so it’s not surprising to see it in a wider general release capacity.
Per original specifications, the v4 still sports its pigskin suede and mesh upper combination, plus generous hits of reflective material on the N logo, toe cap and ankle tab. The midsole is the same ENCAP-infused version as before, which anecdotally is still an excellent option for actual running. And, of course, the model is still made in the USA – the same place as all of NB’s best products.
The New Balance 990v4 in grey is available right now direct from the brand’s web store.
