Mine for the New Balance 990v3 ‘Raw Amethyst’
The first colour that comes to mind when thinking about the 99x series will forever be grey, but that doesn’t mean the brand is incapable of creating combinations that incorporate some more vibrant hues. This upcoming ‘Raw Amethyst’ continues a pattern of bright NBs, which would’ve been quite scandalous for the brand just a few years ago, but it’s safe to say most of the sneakerhead community welcomes this colourful shift.
With a colourway name based on the amethyst crystal, it comes as no surprise to see this 990v3 dressed mostly in light purple. This colour isn’t too wild for the brand these days – the contrasting black inserts is however a dramatic accent. Add on the citrus orange hits on the N logos and NB branding, and the result is a very punchy colourway.
On the underside, the v3’s signature ENCAP sole is highlighted in two tones, displaying regular grey on the lateral heel pad, with the remainder rendered creamy yellow. Perhaps this replicates a faux vintage effect, which is plausible given the model is now 10 years old.
The 990v3 in ‘Raw Amethyst’ will be available directly from New Balance as soon as the calendar hits July 15.
