Fill Up the New Balance 650 With Premium
Nothing’s slowing the down in 2023, the retro high-top basketball shoe straight outta the brand’s 1980s archive. Already putting numbers on the board via ALD collaborations and continued general release drops, this new arrival sets a high standard for inline colourways with its clean slate and premium materials.
High-top sneakers can sometimes scare off less adventurous types, but the enticing execution of this pair will likely attract some curious feet. There’s a sense of familiarity thanks to the shades of ‘Light Aluminum’, ‘Rain Cloud’ and ‘Marblehead’ – all colours found on NB’s running range. Upgraded nubuck and suede materials on the upper in place of the standard leather and mesh are other evocative touches of the brand’s core offerings in the athletic department. This all comes to a head on the perforated suede midfoot panel that’s topped off with an embroidered 650 on the lateral, identifying the model. Other components that give this pair vintage warmth without any antique residue include the aged-look midsole with faux yellowing and the matching tongue seam piping. The overall package is one of the cleanest 650s to date.
