The New Balance 574 Legacy Revamps an Icon

Nothing says New Balance like the 574. A forever icon, the late-80s runner became a beloved baseline model for sneakerheads the world over, from New York City to Harajuku. The original ‘strong, silent type’ is now receiving a technological upgrade for 2022, the New Balance 574 Legacy arriving in a rotation must-have navy shade.

First launched with the help of legendary designer Junya Watanabe and Boston’s Bodega earlier this year, the 574 Legacy retains all of the silhouette’s heritage blueprints while providing a modern revamp.

For starters, the updated N logo is inspired by the New Balance 990v2, a sneaker also permeating the zeitgeist thanks to its indelible dad-shoe credentials. Boasting a slightly slimmer profile, the 574 Legacy also modernises the midsoles, utilising advanced sculpting in the rear. Of course, the Boston brand are known for their premium materials and the 574 Legacy puts this all on display, with rich textiles and luxe suede oozing the classic New Balance look and feel. Down below, the treads have also received a subtle makeover, the distinct pattern befitting the sleeker silhouette overall.
