Big Heat: The New Balance 550 ‘Wheat’
The long-forgotten has gone supernova in recent years. A hooper from New Balance’s 1980s vault, the 550 was carefully resurrected with the help of Midas Touch in late 2020, the silhouette since seeing a mountain of collaborations and clean GR colourways. Not reproduced since its initial run in 1989, Teddy Santis presented the 550 in a faux-aged look emblazoned by yellowed midsoles and an off-white colourway.
The latest iteration to arrive appears in a sun-soaked ‘Wheat’ colourway guaranteed to turn heads, with the ‘Canyon’, ‘Tobacco’ and ‘True Brow’ composition appearing online this week.
Manufactured in classic nubuck, the colourway retains all the classic hallmarks of the 550, including the stocky ‘N’ branding on the lateral and medial sides and vintage NB basketball branding on the tongue tags.
