New Balance Equip Utilitarian Stash Pouches Onto the 2002R
Release: 22 April 2022

Style Code: M2002RVA

Colourway: Grey

The New Balance 2002R is definitely one of the brand’s retro darlings right now, as it seems they can’t stop pumping out killer colourways and concepts of the performance model turned street staple. Coming up next is a stealthy material flip with some functional touches courtesy of the stash pouch that’s retrofitted to the laces.

This colourway isn’t actually too different to the original dark grey scheme used to debut the model, but it appears NB have swapped out its mesh inserts on the toe box and ankle collar for an even breezier type. The suede is also swapped for a nappier variety, and this meets a lightly tumbled leather heel counter. Underneath, the midsole displays an aged faux vintage finish, but thankfully it’s pretty subtle. Bound together by hiking style rope laces, the main attraction here is the ripstop nylon pouch that sits above the instep, which is reminiscent of the uber rare ULTRAOLIVE x NB 990v3 from 2019.

This New Balance 2002R, codenamed M2002RVA, is scheduled to release on April 22 at select NB stockists including Up There, who supplied the shots above. They also note that the shoes are packaged in the brand’s old black ‘schematic’ shoeboxes, which is a nice touch.
