New Balance had one of 2021's biggest surprise hits with the 2002R 'Protection Pack,' and they're planning to vastly expand the pack in 2022. This week alone, we've seen five new colourways that range from an M1300JP-inspired style to a berry-coloured pair, and now a sixth makeup has surfaced: a white and gum style with pre-distressed detailing.
In what seems to be a playful jab at New Balance's former reputation as a 'dad shoe' brand and an acknowledgement of their current status as a lifestyle innovator, this 2002R combines familiar frayed 'Protection Pack' embellishments on its white upper with heavily-scuffed black detailing on the upper, midsole and gum outsole alike. Essentially, it looks like a shoe that your dad has mowed the lawn in it dozens of times – but with an undeniably fashionable twist. An unsullied finishing touch is supplied by a pristine cork insole.
A release date for this dad-tested, streetwear kid-approved iteration of the New Balance 2002R 'Protection Pack' has yet to be announced, but it'll likely hit shelves in the next few months. Expect to plunk down $150 if you'd like to add a pair to your collection.
