Out Now: New Balance 1500 ‘Selected Edition’
There is increased focus on Made In UK line at the moment as their Flimby factory celebrates 40 years of operation. This in turn has resulted in a number of limited releases that’ll come once and never be seen again, such as this ‘Selected Edition’ that features a hodgepodge of premium materials.
While most 1500s have relied on the tried and true combination of suede and mesh, this version introduces some additional textures into the mix. Yes, it’s mostly suede again, but each panel takes on a different colour in a smorgasbord clash of pink, grey, brown, tan, and teal. And each of these hues also appear to have a slightly different aniline texture – suggesting there’s a bit of surplus material at play. That theory grows stronger with the inclusion of black poly fabric on the forefoot underlay. Like any good 1500, there’s a dab of reflective on the toe box – speaking of which, the shape is looking nice and sharp. Other elements of quality pairs include the ENCAP-equipped midsole; its chamfered edges looking smooth as ever.
And for the NB nerds, the tongue embroidery is a little different to usual: it actually spells out the 1500, and also has the namesake ‘Selected Edition’ text in place of the ‘Made In England’ default. Pairs are moving quickly on the NB site, so act swiftly.
