MM6 Maison Margiela and Salomon Gear Up to Drop Their X-ALP Colab
and have certainly settled into the groove of their partnership over the past few years. But while the relationship has resulted in some viral moments (think Rihanna’s sold-out sneakers or the not-so-hike-friendly ) the brands have taken it back to basics for their latest colab, which sees the Margiela sublabel approach Salomon’s silhouette in more minimalist fashion. The duo has readied two colourways of the techy trail-inspired sneaker, which are set to touch down this month.
Nodding towards Salomon’s mountaineering heritage, the MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon X-ALP builds on the in-line version with a series of subtle tweaks. Nips and tucks are kept to a minimum with the silhouette retaining its usual structure and shape, even down to the rubber toe guard at the forefoot. For the upper, a mix of matte and shiny textures draws attention to the mountain-inspired sidewall detailing, while a texturised powerband wraps its way around the shoes to deliver a little extra reinforcement. Continuing on the minimalist theme, the pairs will be available in a subdued ‘Vanilla Ice/Black/Almond Milk’ colourway, as well as a monochromatic black version. Both colours come complete with subtle branding hits: a Salomon logo sweeps around the powerband, while Margiela’s numerical tag graces the tongue tabs and insoles.
The MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon X-ALP will be dropping via Salomon’s channels on June 6. Hit the link below to secure your size and stay tuned for a wider release at other retailers.
