mastermind JAPAN Link With Vault By Vans For Elaborate Sk8-His and Old SkoolsRelease: 27 November 2021
mastermind JAPAN and Vault by Vans have teamed up for an elaborate collection of footwear that consists of two takes on the Sk8-Hi and two iterations of the Old Skool. Founded by Masakki Homma in 1997, mastermind JAPAN offer a high-street take on classic punk rock flair – an ethos that's displayed across the four shoes in this collection by way of unique detailing.
Each features what mastermind JAPAN calls a 'cut-and-paste appearance', which translates to design tweaks like asymmetrical midsoles, doubled-up tongues, exposed foam detailing, altered branding, reimagined Jazz Stripes and more. All four are also loaded up with mastermind JAPAN's signature skull-and-crossbones motif plus plenty of text hits on midsoles and uppers alike. The Sk8-Hi even takes its inspiration a step further with leather jacket-esque metallic silver zippers that run up its collar. This isn't the Japanese brand's first go-around with Vans' Vault line – they've done Old Skools, Sk8-His and Slip-Ons in the past – but it is their most detailed!
Expect the mastermind JAPAN x Vault By Vans Sk8-Hi and Old Skool to release via END. on November 27, accompanied by a skull-and-crossbones skate deck. Sk8-His are priced at $159, and Old Skools arrive at $135.
